1997 Jeep TJ 4.0

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-non-hardcore/779926-rci-fuel-cell-install-jeep.html

I have a fuel cell installed now for some years.
It is the RCI 2161 tank that uses the factory pump
the pump on the Tj is the fuel in and fuel out

The "vent" line that goes to the rollover valve on the tank runs back to the Charcoal Canister
then that goes to the purge valve which connects to intake

All this is to keep the fumes down in the cab and probably for emissions..

the canister has alot of rattling going on inside and chunks of charcoal come out

I keep having pressure built up in the tank causing small pin hole leaks on the welds

My question is

Can I do away with this evap system somehow and just run a true Vent line out of the fuel cell and just have it vented to the back of the vehicle somehow.

I have unhooked everything currently and the jeep idles fine in the garage. Just dont know if this will cause issues down the road

I'd just run a vent from the tank, I deleted my canister and all I did was hook the two lines together at the canister, basically bypassing it, I'd just run a hose from that vent valve on ur tank to a safe place but make sure ya put 2-3 loops in it to help keep junk from working its way back through and maybe a filter on the end

so with by passing the canister do you still have that line also hooked to the tank or did you just cap the end of the line that would have came from the tank

and then using another port out of the tank as the vent?

i guess i am not following..
you said you by passed the charcoal canister by hooking the hoses together

but if you run a vent line from the tank then there is no line hooked up to the line going to the charcoal canister

out of my fuel cell i have 1 "vent line" and it currently runs to the evap.. if i run a Vent line out of tank and just let it hang in back of jeep then the line going to the front of vehicle wont be hooked up at all

unless you have 1 line going to that area and another line being vent

Being that mines a zj it might be different and idk where my lines go exactly, I just know it runs fine, you can just run that vent of your cell to under jeep and you should be fine

Unhook the line from tank to canister. Run it so it is higher than the tank and put a filter on the end. Unhook at the intake and cap it off.

Throw away everything between the intake and tank.

If it doesn't have one install a check valve in the bent line invade of roll over.

It will probably trigger a check engine light but I did the exact same thing in my Kia and it never triggered it

Unhooked the line from fuel cell that went to the factory line running to Canister.

bought a section of hose and ran a line up the rollbar and put a filter on the end

started heep up..
started fine but then after about 3-4 mins it started to idle like an old time farm tractor
would almost go to full stall

i have the purge valve unplugged and even put a bolt in the rubber hose for the canister to cap it off

just wondering if the 97 TJ needs to have that crap hooked up to make the computer believe everything is fine

I am sure i have a check engine light but I don't have any light bulbs in the dash. I can hear 2 quick dings now when I start the heep up
1 for now fuel (fuel gauge isn't working) and now the 2nd one assuming is the CEL for what i changed

Some vehicles need the system pressurized. Hook it all back up and run it with the gas cap off and see if it acts the same???

That is what i am starting to think. But the pressure is building up 2 much. 1 day i removed the fuel cell cap and could watch the fuel start to rise and it eventually came out of the hole. This was after running it for a while that day

I will hook it all back up and give that a try tomorrow
